CSV Integration

Zynk's CSV integration handles the delimited files that still carry so much business data: supplier price lists, bulk customer orders, bank exports and stock feeds. Workflow tasks convert CSV to XML so any Zynk connector can import it, turn exported XML back into CSV, and process a file row by row. It is typically used with Sage, Xero, SFTP and Excel.

Benefits

Why businesses connect CSV

Any CSV into any connector

CSV To XML converts a file into XML, using its header row for field names, so rows from a supplier, bank or older system can feed an import task in Sage, Xero, Shopify or any other Zynk connector.

Files for partners who want CSV

XML To CSV turns data exported from a connected system into a CSV file, picking rows with an XPath query and columns with a field mapping, ready for a customer, reseller or carrier that only accepts CSV.

Row-by-row processing

CSV Repeater runs a set of tasks once for every row, with each column available as a variable. Use it to call a web service per record, or to build a file name or email from the values in a row.

Copes with real-world files

Separator, quote character, encoding and header settings are all configurable, so tab-delimited files, files without headers and exports from older systems can be read without editing them first.

Bulk B2B orders without rekeying

Large customers can drop CSV orders on an SFTP server for Zynk to collect, convert and import as sales orders, with despatch details returned to them as a CSV file once the goods have shipped.

Bank and payment files imported

CSV bank and payment exports can be converted and imported as Xero bank transactions or as transactions in Sage 50, cutting the manual imports that hold up reconciliation at the end of each week or month.

The problem

Why integrate CSV?

CSV is still how a lot of business data travels. Suppliers send price lists, large customers send orders, banks provide statements and partners ask for stock files. Without automation, each file is opened in a spreadsheet, rearranged and imported by hand, and the same work comes round again every time a new file arrives.

Without integration

  • Supplier price files reformatted in Excel before every import
  • Bulk customer orders keyed in line by line
  • Partners waiting for stock or despatch files someone has to build
  • Imports failing because a file has no headers or uses tabs
  • Bank exports imported by hand before reconciliation can start

With Zynk

  • Price files convert to XML and import straight into your ERP
  • CSV orders are collected from SFTP and created as sales orders
  • Exports convert to CSV and are delivered on a schedule
  • Separator, encoding and header settings match each file's layout
  • Bank CSV files convert and import into the accounting system

How it works

How the CSV integration works

  1. Step 1: Pick up the file

Zynk collects CSV files from a local or network folder, an SFTP or FTP server or an Amazon S3 bucket, on a schedule you set.

  2. Step 2: Describe the layout

Set the separator, quote character, encoding and whether the first row holds column names. Files without headers get generated column names based on a prefix and position.

  3. Step 3: Convert and import

CSV To XML produces XML with the root and row names you choose. An XSLT template then maps it onto the import format of the target system, such as Sage 200 sales orders.

  4. Step 4: Send files back out

Where a partner needs a file, XML To CSV builds one from any connector's export and Zynk uploads it to SFTP or saves it to a shared folder, completing the round trip.

CSV integration FAQs

Can Zynk import CSV files into Sage 200?
Yes. Zynk converts the CSV file to XML and passes it to a Sage 200 import task, such as sales orders, price bands or stock records. Column names from the header row are mapped to Sage 200 fields once, then reused every time a new file arrives.
How do I automate CSV imports into Xero?
Save the file to a folder or SFTP server that Zynk watches on a schedule. Zynk converts it and imports the contents with its Xero tasks, for example as bank transactions, invoices or contacts, so nobody has to open Xero's import screens.
Can my accounting system produce CSV files automatically?
Yes. Data exported by any Zynk connector arrives as XML, and the XML To CSV task converts it into a CSV file with the columns you choose. Typical uses are stock feeds for resellers, despatch confirmations for customers and reports for teams that work in Excel.
What is the CSV Repeater task used for?
CSV Repeater runs one or more tasks for every row in a CSV file, exposing each column as a variable. It suits jobs where each row needs its own action, such as sending a separate email or calling a web service once per record.
Does Zynk handle tab-delimited or headerless files?
Yes. You can set the separator, for example a comma or a tab, along with the quote character and the file encoding. Files without a header row are supported too, with columns named automatically from a prefix and their position in the row.
Can Zynk collect CSV files from an SFTP server?
Yes. Zynk can download files from SFTP or FTP, convert them and import the contents into the target system, then move or archive the originals. Files for partners can be uploaded the same way once they have been generated.
How is the CSV connector different from the Excel connector?
The CSV tasks work with plain delimited text files. Zynk's Excel connector handles workbooks, with tasks to convert sheets to CSV or XML and loop through worksheets. Many workflows use both, for example converting an Excel price list to CSV before processing it further.
