HTML Integration

Zynk's HTML integration turns HTML into valid XML that the rest of a workflow can read. Web pages fetched over HTTP, HTML email bodies and reports exported by older systems are converted, optionally transformed with an XSLT stylesheet, and the data inside them is mapped into Sage, Business Central, Shopify or another connected system.

Benefits

Why businesses connect HTML

Messy markup made usable

Browsers tolerate unclosed tags and loose attributes, but XML tools do not. HTML to XML repairs the markup into valid XML, so an XSLT transform can read the page instead of failing on the first stray tag.

Convert and transform in one step

Attach an XSLT file and parameters to the task if you need them. The HTML is converted and reshaped in a single pass, producing XML that is already close to the format an import task expects.

Data from HTML emails

Order confirmations and notifications often arrive as HTML email. With the Email connector reading the mailbox, each message body can be converted and the order details picked out for import.

Pages without an API

When a supplier portal or internal web app only shows data on screen, fetch the page with an HTTP request or Web Automation, convert it, and extract the table or values you need.

Ready for any Zynk connector

Most Zynk tasks take XML in and produce XML out. Converting HTML puts web content on the same footing, so it can flow into accounting, ERP, CRM or ecommerce imports like any other data.

The problem

Why integrate HTML?

Plenty of useful data is locked inside HTML: price tables on a supplier site, order emails from a web form, status pages and reports from systems with no export option. Copying it out by hand is slow, and standard XML tools reject most real-world HTML, so automating the job has usually meant custom code.

Without integration

  • Values copied from web pages and emails into another system by hand
  • XSLT transforms failing because the HTML is not well formed
  • A custom script written to scrape each page layout
  • Order emails sitting in an inbox waiting to be keyed

With Zynk

  • HTML converts to XML and the values map straight into the target system
  • Markup is repaired into valid XML before any transform runs
  • One stylesheet per layout, maintained with the rest of the workflow
  • Each email body is converted and its order lines imported

How it works

How the HTML integration works

  1. Step 1: Collect the HTML

Take the input from wherever it lives: a page requested with the HTTP connector, an email body read by the Email connector, a file in a network folder or a page downloaded by Web Automation.

  2. Step 2: Convert and pick out the data

HTML to XML writes a valid XML file. Add an XSLT stylesheet and parameters to the same task to extract the table, fields or links you care about during the conversion.

  3. Step 3: Import into the target system

The resulting XML is mapped to the format the target connector expects and imported, for example as Sage 200 sales orders, Shopify products or Business Central journal lines.

  4. Step 4: Keep it running

The workflow runs on a schedule. If a page layout changes, only the stylesheet needs updating, and the rest of the integration carries on as before.

HTML and HTTP

Request a page or HTML response with an HTTP GET, then convert it to XML so later tasks can read prices, statuses or links from it.

HTML integration FAQs

What does the Zynk HTML to XML task do?
It reads an HTML file and writes it out as valid XML. You can also give it an XSLT stylesheet and parameters, so the HTML is converted and transformed in a single step, ready for the next task in your workflow.
Why convert HTML to XML?
Most Zynk tasks use XML as their input and output, and XSLT, the usual way to reshape data in Zynk, needs well formed XML. Real-world HTML often is not, so converting it first lets you work with web content like any other data.
Can Zynk extract data from a web page?
Yes. Fetch the page with an HTTP request or Web Automation, convert it with HTML to XML and use an XSLT stylesheet to pick out the values you need. Check that the site's terms allow automated access before relying on it.
Can Zynk read order details from HTML emails?
Yes. The Email connector loops through messages in a POP3 mailbox and makes each body available as HTML. Converting that body to XML lets a stylesheet extract the order number, customer and lines for import into Sage, Business Central or another system.
Is coding needed to work with HTML in Zynk?
Zynk Workflow is low-code, and the HTML to XML task itself only needs an input and an output file. Pulling specific values out of a page usually means writing an XSLT stylesheet, which our integration team can write for you.
Can Zynk create HTML or PDF documents as well?
The HTML connector converts HTML into XML. To go the other way, Zynk's PDF connector has an HTML to PDF task, commonly used for reports and documents that are then emailed or stored, and XSLT can generate HTML from XML.
Can Zynk turn an HTML table into records?
Yes. Once a page has been converted to valid XML, an XSLT stylesheet can walk through the rows and cells of an HTML table and output one record per row, such as a product with its code, description and price, ready for an import task.
