Sage AI tools compared (2026): Copilot, MCP servers and more

Mentioned in this article

There is no single best AI tool for Sage. Here is how Sage Copilot, MCP servers, BI tools and report writers compare, and which one fits your Sage product and needs.

"What's the best AI tool for Sage?" has no single answer. It depends on which Sage product you run, what you want the AI to do, and where your other data lives. There are four main types of tool, and they suit different jobs.

We make one of them, Insights AI, so we've tried to be straight about where each fits, including when ours isn't the right choice. Details were checked in October 2026; AI products change quickly, so confirm availability and pricing before you buy.

The short answer

Tool Best for Cost
Sage Copilot
Sage Accounting, Sage 50, Sage Intacct, Sage X3 and more (not Sage 200)

Sage Intacct MCP Server
Sage Intacct only
Intacct customers connecting their own agents and assistants Check with Sage
Insights AI (Zynk's MCP server)
Sage 50, Sage 200, plus Xero, Shopify and Google Analytics
Plain-English questions and reports in ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot or Gemini, across systems (read-only by design) From £49 a month
BI tools (such as Power BI)
Any Sage product, through exports or an ODBC link

Report writers and Excel add-ins
Sage 50, Sage 200
Fixed, formatted reports and management packs Varies by product

Sage Copilot

Sage Copilot is Sage's own assistant, built into the product. It's the natural place to start if you run one of the products it supports: it needs nothing extra to connect, and in Sage Accounting UK and Sage 50 it's included for the users on your subscription.

Its strength is help inside Sage. In Sage 50, for example, Copilot's debt management shows overdue and upcoming payments, and Sage 50 Professional can send automated payment reminders. Its limits are that features differ by product, edition and region, it only sees what's in Sage, and it isn't available for Sage 200. Our guide to Sage AI covers Copilot and Sage's AI agents in more detail.

MCP servers: Sage in ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot or Gemini

An MCP server connects Sage to a general AI assistant through MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard created by Anthropic in 2024 and now run under the Linux Foundation. Your team asks questions in the assistant it already uses, and the assistant reads the answer from Sage.

  • Sage Intacct has Sage's own MCP server, part of the Intacct AI Gateway.
  • Sage 50 and Sage 200 rely on third-party MCP servers. Insights AI is ours: read-only, working within your Sage permissions, and able to combine Sage with Xero, Shopify and Google Analytics in one answer. Other vendors offer MCP servers for Sage 50 too, so compare what each can read, how it handles permissions and where your data goes.

This route suits businesses that want answers and reports in plain English, especially on Sage 200 or across several systems. It isn't the right tool if you want the AI to post transactions: Insights AI is deliberately read-only. Before connecting, read is it safe to connect Sage to AI?, then follow how to connect Sage to ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot or Gemini.

BI tools fed from Sage

Business intelligence tools such as Power BI are the heavyweight option. Fed by Sage exports or an ODBC link, they produce polished dashboards and can model years of history.

The cost is the build: someone has to design the data model, keep the refresh running and change the dashboards when the questions change. For a fixed set of board-level dashboards that's worth it. For everyday questions it's a lot of machinery, and many businesses use BI for the board pack and an AI assistant for everything else. Read more about Sage reporting and BI.

Report writers and Excel add-ins

Report writers and Excel add-ins produce formatted, repeatable reports straight from Sage, and they're the right choice when a report has to look exactly the same every month. They aren't conversational, though: every new question means building or changing a report, which usually falls to one skilled person.

Which should you choose?

  • On Sage Accounting or Sage 50, and want help inside Sage? Start with Sage Copilot, which is included.
  • On Sage 200? There's no Copilot, so an MCP server such as Insights AI or a BI tool are the options.
  • Want answers across Sage, Shopify, Xero and Google Analytics, in ChatGPT or Claude? An MCP server.
  • Need board dashboards over years of history? A BI tool, often alongside one of the above.
  • On Sage Intacct? Copilot and Sage's own Intacct MCP Server.

Automating Sage, not just asking it

AI tools answer questions; they don't move data between systems. If what you need is orders, invoices and payments flowing into Sage automatically, that's integration rather than AI. See our comparison of the Sage 50 API and iPaaS, or Zynk's integration products.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI tool for Sage?

It depends on your Sage product and what you want. For help inside Sage Accounting or Sage 50, start with Sage Copilot. For plain-English questions and reports in ChatGPT or Claude, especially on Sage 200 or across several systems, use an MCP server such as Insights AI. For large board dashboards, a BI tool.

Does Sage 200 have Sage Copilot?

Not as of October 2026. Sage's own list of products with Copilot covers Sage Intacct, Sage X3, Sage Accounting, Sage Active, Sage Operations, Sage 50, Sage Individual and Sage for Accountants, but not Sage 200.

Is Sage Copilot free?

In some products. Sage says Copilot is now available at no extra charge for all Sage Accounting users in the UK, and it's included for the users on a Sage 50 subscription. Elsewhere Sage describes it as included in select plans or an add-on, so check your plan.

Does Sage have its own MCP server?

For Sage Intacct, yes: the Intacct MCP Server is part of the Sage Intacct AI Gateway, generally available since May 2026 in the UK and other regions. We know of no official Sage MCP server for Sage 50 or Sage 200.
